The countries of the Atlantic Arc, Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom, have jointly been developing several monitoring and measures projects.

These projects aim to contribute to regional cooperation and coordination in the framework of the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive and the OSPAR Convention, being co-financed through European Funds and Programs, namely the European Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Fund (FEAMP) and the INTERREG Program.

DGRM leads the OceanWise project and is a partner in the Mistic Seas II, Clean Atlantic and iFADO projects.

At national level, the SOPHIA project, coordinated by DGRM, has as main goal the empowerment of human resources for the management of the marine environment, its name was chosen as a tribute to the great Portuguese poet Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, whose poems so often inspire us to think about the sea - “mar sonoro, mar sem fundo, mar sem fim” (sonorous sea, bottomless sea, endless sea).
